Budapest’s mayor launched a Facebook poll to vote on Christmas lights
The Mayor of Budapest, Gergely KarĂ¡csony, launched a poll on his Facebook page on whether to have Christmas decoration lights in the Hungarian capital this year.Â
“Municipalities are faced with the issue that their energy bills have increased ten or even twenty times overnight. At the moment, Budapest’s annual income is not even sufficient to pay next year’s electricity bill,” said Gergely KarĂ¡csony, Mayor of Budapest.

KarĂ¡csony believes that in the current economic climate, we need to cut expenses and save money. The mayor says that everyone’s favourite Christmas decorations should be cancelled this year, as it could save Budapest a lot of money.
He is, therefore, launching a poll on the popular social media site, asking the question: should we save money on Christmas decorations?
Currently, more than 3,500 people have voted in favour of abolishing the Christmas decorations, while only a few hundred wished to keep them.
KarĂ¡csony recently posted that the district heating bill of the capital’s schools and kindergartens had jumped by HUF 60 billion (EUR 141 million) overnight, telex.hu reports.
